Sydney Hikes and Trails

31 January, 2025
Sydney has walking and hiking trails for all levels which made exploring alone or with groups easy. I included some of my favorite walks from around the city. The ones I did the most are Bondi to Coogee and North Head Sanctuary. You can click the links to visit the Sydney tourism site for more information on walking grades and locations. Photos from the locations are in order in the gallery below.

1. Bondi to Coogee

This hike contains the following beaches along the way: Bondi Beach, Tamarama Beach, Bronte Beach, Clovelly Beach, and Coogee Beach. More information on the trail can be found on the Sydney Tourism page by clicking the link. I usually eat before starting the hike or at the end at either Bondi or Coogee. Bathrooms are located periodically along the way at beaches.

2. Hermitage Foreshore Track

I stumbled upon this walk while exploring the Vaucluse area, but it has great views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and is shaded.

3. Lane Cove National Park

This park was near Macquarie University and it still took me almost two years to finally go. There's a lot of hiking trails, mostly uneven or unpaved, but the scenery is nice and I didn't roll an ankle which makes it Lauren approved. I only tripped once. I saw a lot of people picnicing or enjoying the water while I was there. There is a cafe located in the park and bathrooms.

4. North Head Sanctuary
I covered this location in my last blog, but it's a great place to walk around for a few hours or have lunch if you're in the Manly area. The area suffered from a wildfire before I arrived to Australia, so the Fairfax lookout was closed for a long time. When it finally reopened, I went to visit again.

5. Bradley’s Head Walking Track
This walk is accessible by car, bus, or ferry. It connects to the Spit to Manly coastal walk, but I only walked down to Bradley's head from the Taronga Zoo entrance. It's a nice walk along the coast in the Sydney Harbour National Park. Once you get to Bradley's head, you can view military relics and a small lighthouse. There are rest areas and outdoor bathrooms there.

6. South Head Heritage Trail
South Head is located directly across the harbour from North Head Sanctuary, so you'll get views from the other side. There's a nice paved walking trail here if you're in the Watson's Bay area. It's a nice outing for a Sydney day trip which I will cover in a future post. There's a lighthouse along the way and lookouts over the seaside cliffs. There is a nude beach along the way that is slightly shielded by trees, just a warning.
